Biography
Marcel holds a Bachelor and master’s degree in computer science from the RWTH Aachen University, Germany.
Since December 2020, he works as a researcher fellow at the Visual Computing Institute, RWTH Aachen University, Germany, with a focus on in-situ visualization as well as immersive visualization.
In October 2023, Marcel joined the Crosssectional Group Visualization at the National High Performance Computing Center for Computational Engineering Sciences (NHR4CES).
Thematic Advice
The visualization of data is an established approach in various sciences. However, even three-dimensional data is often displayed on two-dimensional displays.
With his experience in virtual reality and scientific visualization, Marcel can help in bringing visualization into the third dimension, enhancing both the viewing experience as well as interaction with the data. Combined with his experience with in-situ workflows even large simulation and datasets can be tackled and visualized.
Professional Competence
Marcels focuses on the interaction with and visualization of scientific datasets. This includes the development and evaluation of new interaction techniques, analysis workflows as well as advancing technical limitations. With his focus on providing immersive visualization for data that is generated in an HPC context, data can be brought from flat computer screens to immersive three-dimensional experiences.
Current research focuses on combining in-situ/in-transit workflows with modern game engines to bridge the gap between Scientific Visualization and tools that are traditionally used for entertainment.
He is an active member of the international research community regarding Visualization and Virtual Reality.
