Biography

Fabian received his Bachelor and Master degree in Computer Science from RWTH Aachen University. In August 2019 he joined the chair for high-performance computing at the IT Center of RWTH Aachen Uni-versity as a research assistant and PhD student.

From 2019 until 2022 he was a member of the EU Center of Excellence Performance Optimisation and Productivity (POP2) providing performance assessment services for academic and industrial users from many different scientific disciplines.

Since 2021, Fabian is a member of the Cross-Sectional Group Parallelism and Performance at the Natio-nal High Performance Computing Center for Computational Engineering Sciences (NHR4CES).

Thematic Advice

Whenever a parallel application does not scale well with an increasing number of compute resources, multiple potential bottlenecks may be the reason. Identifying these bottelnecks without using speciali-zed performance analysis tools is a very challenging task for inexperienced users.

Fabian has gained lots of experience in parallel programming and applying established performance analysis tools to identify potential bottlenecks in parallel application codes. He offers performance assessments providing detailed insights into the efficiency of parallel applications.

Whenever a bottleneck is identified, Fabian and his colleagues will try to come up with a solution and will also support the implementation of those solutions into the application code.

Professional Competence

Fabian‘s focus lies on analyzing, modeling and optimizing the performance of parallel applications.

A major goal of his work is the efficient coupling of traditional HPC simulation codes with emerging technologies from Artificial Intelligence, such as Machine Learning and Deep Learning, on heterogenous hardware architectures.
